This famous fairy tale has been re-fashioned and set to music by two great masters of the musical form. The story is based upon the fairy tale Cinderella, particularly the French version Cendrillon, ou la Petite Pantoufle de Verre, by Charles Perrault. The story concerns a young woman forced into a life of servitude by her cruel stepmother, who dreams of a better life. With the help of her Fairy Godmother, Cinderella is transformed into an elegant young lady and is able to attend the ball to meet her Prince, but, in this version, she must open the Prince’s eyes to the injustice in his kingdom.
REVIEWS
“Cinderella couldn’t be better. It’s perfect. I’ve never seen a more seamlessly well-produced show at Theatre Under the Stars.” –Colin Thomas
“Audience members get to be swept away by the romance of love at first sight and lavish ball gowns while also not losing sight of class politics and the ludicrousness of loving someone for their superficial beauty. And it’s all done in a tongue-in-cheek, entertaining fashion.” –Inside Vancouver
