Amy Amantea is a legally blind artisan, theatre lover and VocalEye board member. Working as “The Blind Beader”, Amy has designed an original series of jewellery just for VocalEye that features “Evil Eye” beads. Her choice of the deep blue “Evil Eye” glass bead was inspired by the VocalEye logo, which features a bright blue eye inside the letter “o” in the word “vocal”.
According to Wikipedia: the “evil eye” is a curse believed to be cast by a malevolent glare, usually given to a person when they are unaware. Talismans created to protect against the evil eye are also frequently called “evil eyes”.
It is common in the Turkish culture, and in other middle eastern cultures, to give a gift of a blue nazar Boncugu, or an “evil eye” bead, for protection.
Amy’s exclusive Evil Eye designs may be purchased in person at the VocalEye table in the lobby at our described performances. All proceeds help fund VocalEye’s description and access programs.
