Join Amy and special guests from the Indian Summer Festival for a sampling of highlights from this annual arts festival that celebrates Canadian, South Asian and Indigenous art and artists.
The theme of this year’s Indian Summer Festival is Shapeshifting.
Shapeshifting acknowledges the surreality of the current moment, and that almost every culture has some type of transformation myth, whether Proteus in Greek mythology, the snake-human Nagas of India, the Skin-Walkers of the First Peoples of Turtle Island, or the werewolves of popular cinema. It also reflects the structure of a festival that works across multiple disciplines and with presentations in a hybrid format – partially online and partially in-person. This year’s theme speaks to hybridity, metamorphosis, and transformation, with artists exploring the fluidity of gender, the meeting place of eastern and western cultures, and the edge of the human and natural world.
Highlights from this year’s online festival include comedy and spoken word from Kamal Pandya and musical performances by LadyJams and Anoushka Shankar, presented with our special guests, community programmer Laura June Albert and festival producer Pawan Deol.
The VocalEye virtual lobby opens at 6:30 pm Pacific Time for some socializing and community updates with host Amy Amantea. The pre-show introduction will begin at 6:45 pm with Amy and special guests. The show begins at 7 pm with a running time of approximately 2 hours including conversation, Q and A and a prize draw.
