Join us for this special filmed staging of For a Look or a Touch with audio description by Eileen Barrett, as part of Pacific Opera Victoria’s Pride Programming.
For a Look or a Touch tells the story of two idealistic young men whose lives and love were torn apart during the Third Reich. The work takes its title from a provision in the German penal code that made even an affectionate glance or caress a reason for suspicion and arrest.
Originally commissioned by Music of Remembrance, an organization devoted to Holocaust themes, For a Look or a Touch remains the first and only major musical work to address the Nazi persecution of homosexuals. Based on a true story, composer Jake Heggie and librettist Gene Scheer have created a theatrical chamber piece that reunites Gad and his partner Manfred, who died at Auschwitz some 60 years before.
This 45-minute film features an acting role (Gad), a baritone role (Manfred) and the Pacific Opera chorus performing in English, with a gritty instrumentation and a jazz influenced score.
The VocalEye virtual lobby opens at 6:30 pm Pacific Time for some socializing and community updates with host Amy Amantea. The pre-show introduction will begin at 6:45 pm with Amy and guests. The featured show begins at 7 pm followed by conversation, Q and A and a prize draw.
